When I was young, I remember watching this certain film about small bunch of people borrowing things from the owners of the places where they stay in. The title of the said film was The Borrowers. I am just not quite sure if it is based on the same book but it seems like the story is similar with this upcoming film, The Secret World of Arrietty. This is the reason why I decided to watch The Secret World of Arrietty online. When I decided to watch The Secret World of Arrietty online, I realized that there really is a big possibility of the old movie to be based on the same book as this one. But this is not going to get confirmed unless I really watch The Secret World of Arrietty online.
People who adore cute little things and the idea that there are small people who borrow things from us should also watch The Secret World of Arrietty online. A movie with the same title has already been released in Japan in 2010. Basing on the articles that I read about it, it is basically the same movie. Only the one that is going to be released in the U.S. is to be released under the banner of Walt Disney. In the English version of the film, Bridgit Mendler is to voice for the little Arrietty, Will Arnett is to be the voice of her father, Amy Poehler as her mother, David Henry as Shawn and Carol Burnett as the house keeper.
This film’s story begins when Arrietty’s family decides to live right underneath the floorboards of an old house. One day, the son of the owner of the house arrives and accidentally discovers Arrietty and her father while they are on their way back from borrowing a cube of sugar. They dropped the sugar and in fear, ran back to the floorboards to hide. Shawn, the little boy was a bit disappointed. He wanted to be friends with the little people. He therefore decided to leave the sugar cube near the area where he first saw Arrietty and her father. Eventually, Shawn and the little family got along well. Shawn learned that their house was really a place where the borrowers used to stay in. He even saw a doll house wherein Arrietty’s people believed to have occupied once upon a time.
The conflict of the story began when the annoying housekeeper tried to prove the existence of these small people. The housekeeper bothered the little family’s hiding place and took Arrietty’s mother. She then had fumigators shoo out the other members of the family. However, the family escaped in the end.
